Compass Installation Environmental Requirements & Recommendations
a) Before using the compass, it is recommended to perform magnetic field calibration to improve heading measurement accuracy. If the magnetic environment changes or measurement accuracy becomes unsatisfactory, recalibrate the compass promptly.
b) For optimal heading accuracy, install the compass on a platform as far away from magnetic interference as possible. Although the STA-HD-807 can calibrate for soft and hard magnetic interference present on the platform, greater interference will result in poorer post-calibration heading accuracy.
c) Avoid installing the compass on platforms or in environments with alternating magnetic interference. The compass can only effectively correct for static soft and hard magnetic interference, not alternating magnetic interference. Therefore, choose an installation location as far away as possible from sources of alternating magnetic fields, such as motors, engines, AC power lines, transformers, and various electromagnetic switches.
d) The compass cannot perform precise measurements on platforms experiencing vibration, shaking, or non-stationary motion.
